Introduction to Historical GIS with the Digital History Lab

October 3, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 5:15 pm

Here at the DIL we like supporting other digital initiatives on campus, thus we’re happy to announce that the History department is currently launching a lab and is having a workshop event on Historical GIS. Details from the Digital History Lab website below:

“We’re very excited to announce that on the afternoon of October 3 we will be holding “Introduction to Historical GIS,” the first in a series of Digital History Workshops.  Generously supported by the Department of History and the Davis Library Research Hub, this event will teach users to create basic digital maps, as well as providing an opportunity to brainstorm and share applications of this technology for historical research and pedagogy.

The workshop consists of three sessions–while we encourage you to attend all three, you are welcome to drop in and out according to your interests and schedule.  Coffee and snacks will be provided at the first session.

Session 1: 1-2:15 pm. Hamilton 569. GIS Applications for Research and Teaching

  • Presentations by Dr. Sarah Shields, Dr. Louise McReynolds, and Gabe Moss on their uses of digital mapping, followed by small-group brainstorming and discussion of integrating GIS into your own work.
